A mother and son were shot to death almost exactly one year apart
Dejenaba Altman was shot and killed March 31, 2016, after being caught in crossfire in West Garfield Park. Her son, Romille McCall, died March 30, 2017, from injuries sustained in a shooting in Austin, according to the Tribune. “I feel very numb. I don’t know what to feel or what to believe in,” Altman’s daughter and McCall’s sister, Tyshawnda McCall, told the newspaper. “I am broken. I feel empty. That was my family and it was just us. I feel like I’m alone now.” Altman moved her two children from the west side to DeKalb to avoid the violence two years ago. “One minute I’m talking to him about mom’s one-year memorial, and the next, I got to prepare for his funeral,” Tyshawnda McCall said. “I’m trying to stay as strong as I can.” [Tribune]
